About Me

Chris Belkofer
ATR, LCPC, Art Therapy Instructor in the Graduate Art Therapy Program at Mount Mary College. As a researcher, clinician, painter, and musician, consistent themes in my work center around the exploration of perceptual and emotional responses to aesthetic experience. Why do certain chords sound sad, for example? How can a line be graceful? How does the manipulation of various physical phenomena, such as sound and light result in individualized alterations of our emotional states? Rather than communicating ideas or beliefs through identifiable narratives, I utilize abstraction, emptiness, and form to express transcendent emotion. The subject matter of landscape is a common theme in my work, with the creation of recognizable but un-definable environments serving as the link between my paintings and my musical compositions. Via the manipulation of harmonic tones, texture and color, these compositions evoke space and dynamic movement.
